<lj:music>Dave Matthews Band - The Space Between</lj:music>

Had a fun Bday night out Sunday. Managed to get around the puzzle of who to see that night by starting the evening at the pub with Gemma, Will and Andy, then popping off late to see Ian and Tori. Unfortunately it meant I didn't get as drunk as I'd have liked..but you can't have everything.
I think Ian could possibly have coped with an evening with Gemma and Will but Tori wouldn't come, and I can't say I blame her. It's a tricky situation. Ian and Gemma were together for a long time, while they're not friends now at least they don't hate each other. Ambivalent indifference seems to be the emotion they share at the mo. It's fun for Andy when he visits from London, has to do Saturday with Ian and Sunday with Gemma. It was nice to chat with Gemma though. She's only been a mate since she started seeing Ian, but that's been years. Don't often see her, but Ian's my best mate so I guess that's the way of things. Marc's wedding in October should be fun. First time everyone will be in the same room since the whole mess happened. Will sparks fly? Watch this space:)
Andy's move went well apparently. Finchley is a lot more convenient than Chelmsford.

Jon's popped on up to London for a few days. I get to join him on Wednesday when I can manage to get some time off. Should be a laugh. Of course after we both left (I went to work) a water pipe cracked, so my Dad had a fun time tonight. 'till it gets sorted tomorrow, only got the water that's left in the hot water tank.

Oh yes, and the best news of the weekend. I'm off to America again Oct/Nov to see Shannon. Only 10-11 days again, but I'll take what I can get:). Spending all the time on travel search engines looking fer the best deal, though Shannon's done most of the work so far.
Best Birthday prezzie of the year!

Fun stuff. Birthday in half an hour, when I'll be the wrong side of twenty five, but the right side of thirty.
Watched Ring the movie this morning. Verrrry good film. Of course the Hollywood movie will ruin it. If yer in Japan, Britain or France buy it now. If you're not then move to Britain and I'll let you watch it with me:)
Interesting day which has left me in a quandry about what to do tommorow night about my Bday drink. More about that later 'cause I have to go talk to Shannon.

    <lj:music>The Beta Band - Inner Meet Me</lj:music>

Two week heat wave, my arse! I know the weather folks changed their mind days ago and said it would be dodgy Thursday, but I didn't expect torrential bloody rain. Ah well, I shouldn't complain. I was only out in it fer 10 minutes before I left Southampton.
Yup, I finally got around to going. One of the good things about working silly hours at the start of the week, I get a couple of short days. Anyway, finally got around to buying Jon's Birthday present. Good thing about being a twin, you never forget yer brother's birthday (well, not often anyway:) ). Was gonna buy him the first Beta Band CD that he was talking about the other day, but I wanted it too, so when I found a couple of DVD sets he wanted I got em and decided to keep the CD. It's a bit of a running theme since he moved back home, the rush to be the first to buy a CD whenever our musical tastes intersect (OK, I know the one I bought today is 3 years old. Don't split hairs, we were talking about it the other day cause it got a mention on a movie).
Is it a waste of money to have more than one copy of a CD under the same roof. Maybe not if they're not staying under that same roof fer long, especially if the new roofs are thousands of miles apart...

Anyway, back to reading the set of books Shannon got me fer my Birthday (yeah I know it's at still 3 days to go and I'm halfway through em, but they're gooood). I think the author has a thing for blokes with long hair. All the men that get long, loving descriptions seem to have long hair and the text focus on it. I'd consider growing mine, but it gets curly when it gets past a certain length. I doubt a semi-afro'd suit me, and I'd hate to go to all that effort just to end up looking like a complete tit. So I guess it's off to the hairdressers fer a trim.

Oh, and nice to know the spell checker on this thing can't handle 'arse' or 'dodgy'...

Found something funny that I thought I'd share (well I found it amusing anyway). Late last night Jon was reading a Saint Etienne mailing list. He's on a few music lists and if I'm in the same room I get to annoy him by reading over his shoulder and getting him to scroll back everytime I miss somthing interesting. So anyway, some bloke on the SE list found the following written by some nutter on the Stock, Aitkin and Waterman list.
Now I realise it probably won't mean a lot to those brought up in a country deprived of Kylie Minogue and Rick Astley, but anyway...

> Found on SAW/PWL messageboard. Don't ask what I was doing there.
>
>
> I saw Sinnitta shopping at Sainsburys in Fulham last week and though she
was
> very friendly she a) wasn't wearing any lycra or leopard skin and b)
didn't
> laugh when I told her I had a big red GTO and that I believed in miracles.
> In fact she seemed a bit offended. I thought she was being a bit starry
and
> told her I had always thought she was a slut anyway and flounced off.
> However, I felt a bit bad afterwards as I am actually quite a big fan of
> hers and used to belong to her fanclub.
>
> Hmmm why don't you leave Xavier alone and get of his back.Find someone
else
> to harass .As Kym Mazelle & Jocellyn Brown would say - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
>
> Oh, them were the days. Such good memories. I too attented Shelly's and
> Liverpool Empire, plus various others including a Ferry On The Mersey with
a
> performance from Sonia, a free can of coke and a cheesburger. All for
> something stupid like ?1.

So this is what I'm doing with my nights these days. Instead of being down the pub getting wankered, I'm sat at home reading the ravings of a bloke who obviously got to the booze first.

OK, so I never made it to Southampton...I was knackered and woke up late. Having a lazy day instead (at least after I finish the tidying and laundry I've put off for days - see I'm not a total slob):)
Since I've put off buying any Indian movies until I go to London next week I've replaced the dodgy Bollywood compilation CD I've been playing with the new Avalanches disc. Ahh, Frontier Psychiatrist's just started. Best song in ages and actually getting shitloads of airplay on Radio 1.
Oh and finally got around to watching High Fidelity this morning. Bought the DVD last month after reading the book and never got around to watching it.
It was very good, but still not as good as the novel. John Cusack was great and he obviously has good taste, but I had trouble getting around the location change. The shop was too big (although maybe most 2nd hand record shops in Chicago look like that). It looked more like a Soho shop than a Camden one, but either way it looked too perfectly square, too purpose built. No second hand shops in London look purpose built.
The movie and the acting was good enough that after the first 5 minutes I didn't think twice about the accents. It was more the locations that looked wrong. The leafy suburb where Laura's parents lived didn't look leafy enough and why do all American funerals look like they take place in perfectly plastered square rooms that look like everything is made of plastic.
The only funerals I've ever been to here took place in old draughty stone buildings with uncomfortable pews...
Anyway I'm just being petty, it was good and there were some great original lines, situations and jokes tossed in. So if you have the time, read the book; if you don't, watch the movie; but if you can, do both. Sorted.

Ok, I'm chatting online and being bullied into writing my first entry right now on the spot. I'm not good at those stream of consiousness ramble things (at least not without a few pints first)so we'll have to put up with my unprepared mumblings.
Letsee, at the end of a very long week at work. Britain is in the grip of a heatwave, and whatever Shannon says it IS currently hotter here than it is in Hawaii. They said so on BBC Radio One so it must be true...
Thankfully everyone at work are back off their hols so I get a real, honest to whatsit, day off - which I'm gonna use trawling Southampton for Bollywood DVDs (a new interest/affliction triggered by a recent Channel 4 Hindi film season).
Romantic, exotic and strangely funny, I'm in the mood for love stories at the mo.
Anyway, that's enough rambling fer now. Back to daydreaming about Shannon.
